Marie Fidela R. Paraiso, MD is a Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Health Sciences at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.She has been recently elected to the Cleveland Clinic Board of Governors.Nationally, Dr. Paraiso is a Subspecialty Board Examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and has served twice on the Board of Directors for the American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS) and as the Scientific Program Vice Chair and Chair for 2011 and 2012 AUGS Annual Meetings, respectively. She has served on the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) Board of Trustees from 2012-2014 and was the Scientific Program Chair of the 2018 Global Congress in Las Vegas, and 2019 President of the AAGL. She has lectured extensively throughout the world, reviews for 13 major journals, and has over 150 peer reviewed publications, 23 book chapters, and one book. She is currently co-editor of a textbook entitled Laparoscopic Urogynecology.She is a proud of her work as primary investigator for the Pelvic Floor Disorders Network (NIH funded research collaboration) and primary investigator of numerous prospective randomized trials.
She has received many awards, including the APGO CREOG and CREOG teaching awards, the AAGL Kurt Semm and Golden Laparoscope Awards, the AUGS Best Clinical Manuscript Award, the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons (SGS) Best Fellow and Best Member Clinical Research Papers and Prize Videos, and the prestigious Raymond Lee Lectureship in 2017 for her contributions to and leadership in the field of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery.She has been voted Best Doctor in Cleveland Magazine and Best Doctors in America annually from 2006-2021 by her peers.
Dr. Paraiso holds a joint appointment in the Cleveland Clinic Urological Institute. She served as Section Head for Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery from 2006-2020
Dr. Paraiso is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, and her expertise includes laparoscopic and robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery, incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, vaginal surgery and neuromodulation. She is a frequent invited lecturer for local, national and international scientific meetings and has been published in numerous professional publications, including Obstetrics and Gynecology, American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Minimally Invasive Gynecology, International Urogynecology Journal, OB/GYN Management, European Journal of Gynecologic Oncology, and Review Journal of the Netherlands.
She received her degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology, as well as research fellowships in advanced pelvic surgery and advanced endoscopic surgery and urogynecology at Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Paraiso's professional memberships include the International Urogynecologic Association, the International Continence Society, the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopy, the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons, the American Urogynecologic Society and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. She is presently on the Board of Directors of the American Urogynecologic Society and National Advisory Board for the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists.
