Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.
To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.
As of 11/20/2017, Dr. Wanek has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. Dr Wanek is amazing

Dr. Wanek has really been wonderful this past year, he's a great Dr. I do have some concerns though and I feel as though I'm not being heard. my gallbladder was removed one year ago and I am still having pain and aching;it's awful! Dr. Wanek would like me to take a steroid to help with inflammation/pain. I have a noted mental health condition and steroids could aggravate my condition. no alternative was given and he kinda made me feel as though it wasn't a big deal. They could ease me off the steroid if there were any adverse effects. A manic episode is something I'm not interested in. I took the prescription from him, filled it and I am yet to take it! I look at the box and think...tomorrow. I'm not sure I will take it. I suggested we take a look at his handy work and make sure my body is functioning properly. Maybe I have a stone or my liver is stressed, I'm not sure! But common sense tells me if you remove an organ, wouldn't you check to be sure all is functioning properly without said organ? He's suggesting I see a GI Dr. if the steroid doesn't work! I never had one digestive issue or problems with diarrhea until my gallbladder was removed. I will happily see a GI Dr. but first if he refuses to check my liver and all ducting that he rearranged; I want a second opinion! He commented that my top incision is to height he may have "upset" a nerve or muscle. Great! Just wonderful! I'm just sick of the aching and muscle spasms, I want answers and relief.

My office visit was a routine post op visit after surgery for hernia repair. I am extremely appreciative of the excellent care I received at Medina hospital outpatient surgery dept. The nursing staff at the hospital as well as the staff at the medical building for my post op visit were extremely pleasant and very helpful. In addition, I am extremely impressed and very grateful for Dr. Wanek's excellent surgical skills. My postop pain & discomfort were minimal and my recovery time was shorter than expected. I also had absolutely no postop nausea or dizziness, so kudos to the anesthesiologist as well.
