Industry Relationships

Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 8/6/2018, Dr. Bain has reported the financial relationships with the companies listed below. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. To learn more about Cleveland Clinic's policies on collaborations with industry and innovation management, go to our Integrity in Innovation page.

Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. Click here to view a listing of instances where Cleveland Clinic has identified a Public Health Service (PHS)-Reportable Financial Conflict of Interest and has put measures in place to ensure that, to the extent possible, the design, conduct and reporting of the research is free from bias.

our experience was excellent. brought our 32 year old son that had had a stroke. His comment when leaving, "after being treated by 20 doctors, finally someone who wants to help".

Dr Bain listened to my concerns and understood the questions I had. He used the EPIC Clinical Chart and the views of my MRA and CTA vs the surgical angiogram to answer my questions and give me tangible proof to the resolution of the surgical cerebral angio vs. the Computed angio with CTA or MRA. He understood my concern and didn't downplay my concerns or make me feel trite - he was caring and understanding and understood my concerns fully - he is the consummate professional

Reviewed on Jun 27, 2018

As I mentioned in previous comments Dr. Bain genuinely showed caring for my well being and he allayed any fears I had about the surgical angiogram and potential debilitating results given I have just been through four months of recovery and rehab from my AVM Aneurysm surgery which Dr. Bain performed on January 30 2018

Reviewed on Jun 27, 2018

Lauren, the nurse who works with Dr. Bain came in and told us that Dr. Bain was running late with a previous procedure. When he did get to the exam room he did not rush through our discussion of the surgical angiogram and my concerns with persistent potential side effects of a hazardous nature. He showed empathy and didn't dismiss my concerns - I would recommend Dr. Bain to anyone who need a neuro surgical consult - he has given me a second chance at life and he is someone who genuinely cares about me and my health and wellbeing - having just lost both parents in the past 60 days, he was compassionate and caring

Reviewed on Jun 27, 2018

Lauren, Dr. Bain's nurse is very professional and understood why I wanted to meet with Dr. Bain to discuss my concerns well in advance of surgery and she facilitated the schedule - I would recommend Dr. Bain and the CCF Neuro Surgical department to anyone who would inquire

I saw *Dr. Bain once for about 5 minutes.

Dr. Bain was caring and explained everything about my condition in detail and provided treatment options. He introduced us to other members of his team with whom he consulted.

Dr Bain's staff gpes above and beyond that of any of our other doctors care team.

Brain surgery is serious business and between Dr. Bain and Lauren I felt very comfortable at the end of our approx minute visit.

Things moved along very nicely. From getting CT to seeing Dr. to evaluate the CT

Reviewed on May 16, 2018

I rated just based on this office visit. In other departments, I would have rated differently. Dr Bain stepped in for his colleague & addressed one of two concerns I had that fell into his niche. He provided a second opinion & explained from his clinical experience why surgery was not needed for my aneurysm & why. I feel very confident about his opinion because of his explanation & reasoning for the conclusion he drew. Thank you Dr Bain!!

Physicians assistance was great.

Reviewed on Apr 18, 2018

My appointment was scheduled for Dr. Bain, however I met with Beth Mellors, Certified Nurse Practitioner. She was excellent, kind, caring and aware of my health situation. I completed this survey with her service to me in mind. I am disappointed that I did not even meet Dr. Bain. I would have appreciated he at least introducing himself to me and explaining that Beth Mellors would be taking of this visit. Again Beth Mellors was great! As a courtesy, I should have at least met Dr.Bain. Thank you for this opportunity to express my concern.
