About Stephen Ellis, MD

Stephen G. Ellis, MD, is a staff cardiologist in the Robert and Suzanne Tomsich Department of Cardiovascular Medicine in the Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute at Cleveland Clinic. He also is Co-Director and Co-Founder of the Cardiovascular Genebank. His primary clinical interests are complex coronary interventions, novel treatments for patients who are unable to have surgery, minimally invasive treatments for patients with aortic valve disease and studies to better understand the basis and predict the occurrence of disease (genomics and proteomics).

Education and Training: Dr. Ellis received his medical degree from the University of California (at Los Angeles). He completed his internship and residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, and fellowships at the Brigham and Women's Hospital (Cardiology) in Boston, Stanford University (Cardiology) in Stanford, CA, and Emory University (Angioplasty) in Atlanta, GA. He has done additional work in Molecular Biology at Pennsylvania State University.

Research, Publications and Speaking: Dr. Ellis serves on the editorial boards for numerous publications, including the Journal of the American College of Cardiology American Journal of Cardiology, Circulation and the American Heart Journal. He has authored and co-authored more than 700 papers on interventional cardiology and cardiovascular disease for numerous scientific journals. Dr. Ellis also served as the principal investigator for many national and international clinical studies that have changed the approach to treatment of patients with coronary artery disease. These include the RESCUE I trial, GUSTO IIb PTCA study, TAXUS IV and V trials ,the FINESSE trial and the ABSORB III and IV trials.

Candace was just the best !!!! Dr Ellis made me feel hope !!!!! very efficient & wanted me to know he would work with me to alleviate chest pain..that is not what I was getting from my Dr...He wanted me to go to Cleveland Clinic to see if they could find something he might be missing...I am very satisfied with my visit to Dr.Ellis. I have to call him next week as he changed one of my meds to higher dose & wants to know how I am doing.Everyone from the receptionists .ekg. personnel.the people directing you where to go..they all were very helpful.

Dr. Ellis was thoroughly familiar with my situation and the records, reports and films of my previous procedures that I had sent to his office. He was clear and concise as to my condition and my potential treatment. I was looking for a way to determine if and when re-stenosis could occur and what was my game plan going forward. He provided direction on both issues. He set up a nuclear stress test and carotid artery sonogram while I was there. He was great!
