Dear Imaging Institute Alumni and Staff,

Change is the norm for today’s healthcare industry. But we in Cleveland Clinic’s Imaging Institute are especially excited about the changes happening right here.

First, we congratulate Michael T. Modic, MD, FACR (DR’78, NR’79), who was named Cleveland Clinic’s first Chief Clinical Transformation Officer in January 2015. In this newly created role, Dr. Modic is leading Cleveland Clinic’s response to the changing healthcare environment, incorporating value-based care efforts, quality and safety, patient experience, continuous improvement, technology and data.

A search committee is already at work to find Dr. Modic’s successor as Chair of the Neurological Institute.

We are also proud of our Head of Interventional Radiology, Mark Sands, MD, who was featured in the November 2014 issue of Compliance Today. Dr. Sands, who is also Cleveland Clinic’s Vice Chairman of Clinical Operations and Quality, was interviewed with Chief Integrity Officer Donald Sinko, about quality improvement, patient safety and the importance of compliance leadership. In the interview, Dr. Sands extols Cleveland Clinic’s willingness to change habits to maximize the effectiveness of compliance programs.

Another change is occurring with our radiology residency program. Now that interventional radiology is considered a primary medical specialty and the American Board of Radiology is certifying doctors in interventional radiology (IR) and diagnostic radiology (DR), we are applying for a new IR/DR residency program at Cleveland Clinic. As a result, IR fellowships will phase out by 2020.

In the meantime, we congratulate our 2015 senior residents — all of whom passed their core exams — and nearly all of whom will be staying at Cleveland Clinic for their fellowships.

We invite you to read more about these stories and other Imaging Institute news in our Q1/Q2 2015 Radiology Alumni Connection.
