The Driver Evaluation Program provides an opportunity for individuals to get back on the road after an illness or injury.
The program includes a physical assessment, an evaluation of driving abilities and an evaluation of the need for adaptive equipment. A driving simulator is available to test reaction time and threat recognition.
An on-the-road evaluation is also included in the overall driving assessment if the person has a valid driver's license. During this portion of the evaluation, the therapist assesses vision, perception and cognition as well as physical management of the vehicle. The vehicle used has adaptive equipment for the driver and an additional brake for the evaluator to assure safety.
A physician's referral is necessary to initiate the evaluation.
