This elective offers medical students an in-depth exploration of interventional psychiatry, focusing on advanced therapeutic techniques for treating psychiatric disorders. Interventional psychiatry integrates innovative, non-pharmacological treatments, such as electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), and ketamine infusion therapy.

Objectives

  • Identify diagnostic criteria for treatment-resistant depression
  • Learn about ECT and observe/assist with ECT treatment
  • Learn about TMS and observe/assist with TMS treatment
  • Learn about ketamine and observe/assist with ketamine infusions
