Atrial fibrillation is a condition that occurs when the upper chambers of the heart (atria) can’t beat properly because electrical impulses that travel through them are disorganized. The result is an irregular, rapid heartbeat. Because the blood isn’t properly pumped out of the atria, clots can form, which can lead to a stroke. Treatment options include medication, ablation, surgery and insertion of a pacemaker. Your doctor will determine the best option for you.
