Overview
CYCE offers paid summer internship programs focused on healthcare careers (clinical and non-clinical) and workforce development:
Programs give Northeast Ohio high school students the opportunity to learn and work alongside world-renowned caregivers at Cleveland Clinic’s main campus, regional hospitals, family health centers and administrative campuses.
Each program is designed to provide workforce readiness and career preparedness, increase employability and assist with the transition to college or employment. The programs also provide opportunities to develop and refine various skills such as project management; digital literacy; academic writing and presentation; professional communication; and teamwork.
Overall, students will gain exposure to clinical and non-clinical healthcare fields and careers; manage learning opportunities and work responsibilities; network with Cleveland Clinic caregivers; and find practical, real-world applications for their academic knowledge and pursuit of their selected career goals.
Cleveland Clinic Louis Stokes Summer Internship Program
This paid internship program provides high school students with engaging, real-world work experiences and professional learning opportunities in a variety of non-clinical, business-focused areas of healthcare (pathway examples include but are not limited to: Administration, Buildings & Design, Human Resources, Information Technology/ Cybersecurity, Operations, Patient Support, Protective Services) and the opportunity to interact with Cleveland Clinic caregivers.
Application Criteria
- Be in 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th grade.
- Be at least 15 years of age by June 1, 2023.
- Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better on a 4.0 scale, preferred.
- Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to participate in the program.
- Live in one of the following Northeast Ohio cities: Cleveland, East Cleveland, Euclid or Warrensville.
- Demonstrate a strong interest in a non-clinical, business focused healthcare career.
- Be a U.S. Citizen, non-citizen national, or legal permanent resident.

Science Summer Internship Program
This paid internship program provides high school students with engaging, real-world work experiences and professional learning opportunities in a variety of clinical-focused areas of healthcare (pathway examples include but are not limited to: Allied Health, Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, Science, Science Research) and the opportunity to interact with Cleveland Clinic caregivers.
Application Criteria
- Be in 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th grade
- Be at least 15 years of age by June 1, 2023.
- Have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or better on a 4.0 scale, preferred.
- Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to participate in the program.
- Live AND attend school in one of the following Northeast Ohio counties: Cuyahoga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, or Summit.
- Demonstrate a strong interest in a clinical healthcare career.
- Be a U.S. Citizen, non-citizen national, or legal permanent resident.

Discovery Accelerator/IBM Internship Program
This paid summer internship is designed for high school and undergraduate students to gain research experience working on projects related to the Cleveland Clinic Discovery Accelerator, a partnership between Cleveland Clinic and IBM. The Discovery Accelerator was formed to advance healthcare research through high-performance computing that includes artificial intelligence, hybrid cloud and quantum computing.
Interns work directly with Cleveland Clinic principal investigators in leading-edge laboratories on the Cleveland Clinic main campus. In addition to research skills, students will gain skills related to information technology and professionalism, both areas of importance that will help them advance their career goals.
Eligibility criteria and programming
High school student eligibility criteria:
- Be at least 15 years old by June 1 of internship year.
- Be in 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade at the time of application.
- Have a current cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale (preferred).
- Proof of full vaccination against COVID-19.
- Be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national or legal permanent resident.
- Demonstrate a strong interest in the sciences and an expressed interest in research, information technology, artificial intelligence and quantum computing in a focused healthcare career.
High school student programming:
- Six-week internship, June – July.
- Must have exposure to computational classes/coursework prior to internship.
- Students will work 25 hours per week.
- Students participate in workshops to enhance their professional development and soft skills as well as participate in Wellness Wednesdays supported through Cleveland Clinic’s Education Institute.
- Interns will have the opportunity to visit Cleveland Clinic’s IT Division in Brecksville, Beachwood and main campus.
Undergraduate student eligibility criteria:
- Preferred undergraduate majors: computer science, neuroscience, data science, biomedical engineering.
- Proof of full vaccination against COVID-19.
- Must reside in Northeast Ohio during internship.
Undergraduate student programming:
- Eight-to-10-week internship May – July.
- Curriculum determined based on lab mentor and approved project.
- Students will have opportunities to take participate in Cleveland Clinic professional development courses and workshops.
Applications for the summer internships are posted annually in March on the Cleveland Clinic Career Site.
