Description

  • To determine the association between the level of transcutaneous oxygen measurement immediately prior to surgery with postoperative wound complications.
  • To determine the association between the level of transcutaneous oxygen recovery during the rest period (time from completion of radiation to surgery) and postoperative wound complications.
Inclusion Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • Biopsy proven soft-tissue sarcoma of the lower extremity which is recommended to be treated with preoperative radiation followed by limb-salvage surgical excision with a primary closure. This recommendation must be submitted by a multidisciplinary sarcoma team including a medical and radiation oncologist.
Exclusion Criteria

Exclusion Criteria

  • Patients who are currently pregnant
  • Patients with an upper extremity sarcoma
  • Recurrent soft tissue sarcoma
  • Previous surgery to the site of the sarcoma
  • Previous radiation
  • Surgical resections requiring immediate flap or skin graft coverage
  • Tumors not requiring radiation treatment
  • Patients who are not willing to have either radiation or surgical treatment
