Title Transcutaneous Oxygen as a Predictor of Wound Healing in Preoperatively Radiated Soft Tissue Sarcoma

Description
- To determine the association between the level of transcutaneous oxygen measurement immediately prior to surgery with postoperative wound complications.
- To determine the association between the level of transcutaneous oxygen recovery during the rest period (time from completion of radiation to surgery) and postoperative wound complications.
Inclusion Criteria
- Biopsy proven soft-tissue sarcoma of the lower extremity which is recommended to be treated with preoperative radiation followed by limb-salvage surgical excision with a primary closure. This recommendation must be submitted by a multidisciplinary sarcoma team including a medical and radiation oncologist.
Exclusion Criteria
- Patients who are currently pregnant
- Patients with an upper extremity sarcoma
- Recurrent soft tissue sarcoma
- Previous surgery to the site of the sarcoma
- Previous radiation
- Surgical resections requiring immediate flap or skin graft coverage
- Tumors not requiring radiation treatment
- Patients who are not willing to have either radiation or surgical treatment
