Industry Relationships

Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 9/12/2019, Dr. Ui has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. This was my first visit with this doctor. She was very efficient. She seems to be extremely smart and a very competant neurologist. That being said, I left feeling stupid and ridiculous and teared up on the way to the car. I'm not a person who cries or feels that way often. The Dr was visibly annoyed when I was trying to explain the history of my symptoms. Apparently I jumped around too much while explaining which made it hard for her to document the history portion. I was sent to Cleveland Clinic by my local neurologist who was stumped by my symptoms and hoped experts at CC might have seen something similar before and know what it is. The Dr kept asking why I was at CC, despite my explanation, and kept asking what I was diagnosed with- I was at CC to GET a diagnosis. I asked several questions. She did a poor job of hiding her frustration with my lack of basic neurological knowledge. The Dr was polite throughout the appointment and finished the appointment exactly on time (to the minute). I'm sure the neurological exam she did was text book perfect. And she did have two ideas that I passed along to the local neurologist. But I would not want to see this Dr again.

I am very fortunate, I have two extraordinary doctors with the Clinic Dr. Ui is without a doubt, the greatest Neurologist I've dealt with in the 56 years I have had epilepsy and the ramifications thereof. That being said, I would never have had the opportunity to become a patient of hers without the referral from the best GP I've had since I moved to Cleveland, Dr. Daniel Allan.

Dr UI listened and asked me questions. She showed real concern for my problem and together we discussed the situation. I am so thankful I left my previous doctor and found her.

She is the best doctor in your system. She is a very caring person who really listens to you. More important she was the only person who proactively sought out a treatment plan for me after I was injured during my surgery at the Clinic.

The doctor forgot that I have small fiber neuropathy, that is why I have been seeing her for about 10 years. She was telling me I did not have small fiber neuropathy. She had to go back in my chart to see if I had it. She did not seem informed about me. It was not a good visit.
