Industry Relationships

Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 5/8/2020, Dr. Chan has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. I had such a great appointment with Dr. Chan. he listened and talked through everything I wanted to, gave really excellent information, was very thorough and I could tell he cared. I wouldn't want to go to anyone else. he's awesome.

First visit with Dr. Very pleased with conversation/explanation of issues and treatment.

This experience was the absolute worst I have ever had with a care provider. Dr Albert Chan was extremely rude to myself and my husband from almost the very minute he entered the room. he was condescending and arrogant and showed little regard for me as a patient, or for his own colleagues, their opinions or treatment of myself and my heart condition. this was not care, this was outright bullying. I will NOT be seeing this practitioner ever again.

I will continue working with my team in Avon, Dr. Chan says he runs the show, but not for me. I really likeDr. Jacobs and Marisol Ortiz.

This was our first visit and Dr. Chan was not happy that I was not on statin. He disagreed with my reasons but we got on the same page and I bought in on his argument to try. He was very professional and listened and worked with me without compromising his position. His notes in My Chart were also professional and encouraging. I will continue to work with him until I find out how this drug affects me and reacts with other medications I am taking. I will continue to support my health through good eating, diet, and exercise to the best of my ability.

dr. chan is great!! he thoroughly explained everything, and discussed and addressed all of my concerns. he also, very obviously, works very hard to keep his knowledge fresh and up-to-date- some information and results I got from cardiology visits several years ago are now outdated or don't reconcile with current standards, and Dr. Chan explain to me why and how that is the case and what the new standards are in simple terms that I understood
