Biography

About Mazen Hanna, MD

Dr. Hanna is a staff cardiologist in the Section of Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation Medicine in the Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart & Vascular Institute.  He is Director of the Heart Failure Intensive Care Unit and Co-Director of the Amyloid Program.  He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant by the American Board of Internal Medicine.  Dr. Hanna performs right and left heart catheterization as well as endomyocardial biopsy.  

In addition to office visits, Dr. Hanna also offers scheduled follow up virtual visits to select patients, through the Cleveland Clinic Express Care ® Online app. This platform allows patients to see their physician live, using their smartphone, tablet or computer.

Specialty Interests: Cardiomyopathy, heart failure, heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory assist devices, pulmonary hypertension, and cardiac amyloid.

Education and Training: Dr. Hanna is a native of Cleveland and grew up in Pepper Pike, Ohio.  He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York where he majored in Psychology. He received his Medical Degree from The Ohio State University and went on to do his Internal Medicine training at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas where he received the Outstanding Medical Resident Teacher Award.  He came back to Cleveland to do his Cardiology Fellowship training at Case Western Reserve University, MetroHealth Campus where he was appointed Chief Cardiovascular Fellow.  He completed his training with a one year Advanced Fellowship in Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation at the Cleveland Clinic.   He was appointed as a staff cardiologist in 2006.

When we come to the Clinic it is an excursion and we have to stay at a hotel the night before. We saw Dr. Hanna for a second opinion. He was thoughtful, knowledgeable, insightful and helpful. He is a gifted physician.

Dr. Hanna was delayed briefly because he was called into another situation. His nurse was very thoughtful and kept us informed. I was most impressed that Dr. Hanna apologized for the delay even though it was not excessive under the circumstances.

Dr. Hanna is a very busy Cardiologist, and treats extremely sick and complicated patients. Because his clientele are complex I expect to have to wait for him.

Dr. Mazen Hanna is the GREATEST!! He shows genuine care for his patients. In the past, I had an emergency situation and he made sure he made room for me to see him even though it was at end of day. He is one in a million!!
