Biography

About Eric Roselli, MD

Eric Roselli, MD, is Chief of Adult Cardiac Surgery, Director of the Aorta Center and a Staff Surgeon in the Cleveland Clinic Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and on the teaching faculty at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.

Specialty/Clinical Interests: Adult Cardiac surgery, surgery for thoracic aortic aneurysm and dissection including endovascular treatment, Aortic valve repair and replacement including minimally invasive and percutaneous treatment, high-risk reoperation surgery, and surgery for cardiovascular tumors

Number of Procedures Performed: Cleveland Clinic performs more than 4,000 heart surgeries each year. All Cleveland Clinic cardiac surgeons complete between 300-400 cardiac cases per year. Of these, Dr. Roselli performs approximately 350, including minimally invasive aortic valve repair, complex aorta operations and transcatheter procedures.

Education and Training: Dr. Roselli did his undergraduate work at the University of Michigan, where he received the David J. Hallisey Memorial Academic Scholarship. He received his medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, graduating in 1997 "with distinction." He completed residencies in both surgery and thoracic and cardiovascular surgery at Cleveland Clinic, followed by additional training in catheter-based interventions and endovascular surgery. He was appointed to Cleveland Clinic in 2005 in the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.

Publications and Speaking: He has authored or co-authored over 150 book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals on root, arch, and thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms, endovascular aortic surgery, reoperative cardiac surgery, aortic valve disease, cardiac tumors, cardiac CT, atrial fibrillation and transcatheter device development. Dr. Roselli participates in the peer review process as a reviewer and served as guest editor for prestigious medical journals.

Dr Roselli's research is focused on thoracic aortic dissection and aneurysms, and aortic valve and multi-valve disease. Specifically, his projects are directed at improving and developing safer and less invasive approaches to treat patients with these problems. He is regularly invited to present information about his research at medical and surgical conferences worldwide.

Dr. Roselli is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American College of Cardiology.  He has served as a chairman and member of the program committee for multiple national meetings, co-authored practice guidelines for the treatment of patients with cardiovascular diseases, and is an active member of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.

As a military officer deployed in three different combat theater's, in and out of many hospitals, my AVR surgery was tracked for ten years, Dr. Roselli and CC, are the best! Roselli, a warm human being, answered my questions and gave me the way ahead. I have not felt, holistically, this great in six years or so. My rehab is progressing as planned and will see the team in August, 2020.

Dr. Roselli is a world class surgeon in regard to aortic aneurysms. His combination of skill, knowledge and caring it without equal. I am happy to have him as part of my healthcare team. He repaired my ascending aortic aneurysm June 2019 using the DAVID procedure. I have another issue on the other side of my aorta that I am sure we will get corrected.
