Industry Relationships
Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.
To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.
As of 3/15/2022, Dr. Samuel has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. I really appreciated the time he spent with me to review his thoughts to set me on the right path to discover what will solve my pain issues.

Dr. Syed, the Fellow, was very methodical, thoughtful, responsive, and understanding - impressive in his approach to my issues. Dr. Samuel saw me only briefly, was not thorough but relied on the Fellow's work up. Added value to recommended approach.

I was in great pain. It would have been wonderful if I could have gotten in when the pain was so bad. However I had to wait weeks for availability to be seen. This is a general problem with all Cleveland clinic appointments. Not aimed at dr Samual. Also the Wait time on hold when I call the clinic for anything is way too long.

Dr. Samuel was great; however, the fellow or intern that was with Dr. Samuel was extremely disrespectful. She did not allow me to complete my sentences when explaining my symptoms and medical history. She actually tried completing my sentences for me and her interpretations of what I was trying to say were incorrect. I felt very unheard and invalidated.

I was seen initially by the fellow, Dr. Christina Shin. She was OUTSTANDING. Very comprehensive questioning of the history of the source of my problem and range of symptoms. Extensive real-time reference to imaging and very clear explanations of the injury mechanism and course of treatment. Very bright but clear spoken.

One thing that threw me was one of the first things Dr. Samuels asked me was 'have you found a diagnosis yet?' What?!? I thought that's why I've been working with Cleveland Clinic?? I mentioned that I plan to go to a rheumatologist because 'Fibromyalgia' was mentioned to me, to which Dr. Samuels rolled his eyes. So I'm supposed to find my own diagnosis somehow, but making that attempt leads to eye rolls from my provider??
