Biography

About Michelle Inkster, MD, PhD

Michelle Dawn Inkster, MA, MBA, PhD, MD, is a Staff Gastroenterologist at Cleveland Clinic. She is board-certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine. Dr. Inkster was born in Adelaide, Australia.

One of my interests is anal dysplasia. Anal dysplasia and anal cancer have traditionally been something that is just not discussed by the population at large as if it is something shameful. This disease is associated with the human papillomavirus. The majority of people have been exposed to this virus at some time in their life but not everyone is at risk for anal cancer. Those who are at risk are women who have had cervical cancer, persons who have had liver and kidney transplants and others who are immuno suppressed such as patients with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, for example. Patients who have HIV are at the greatest risk. In collaboration with one of my Colorectal colleagues we have established an anal dysplasia clinic in our Infectious Disease department. My personal professional goal is to work to have screening for anal dysplasia accepted as a routine part of health care for those who are at risk.

Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

Dr Inkster was very kind and compassionate!

Reviewed on Aug 5, 2021

As stated previously, because this was my first virtual visit, I failed following the steps completely. The staff and provider were very helpful, I am just fairly new at virtual visits.

Had been have issues for several months..in just a few minutes of listening and looking at my chart Dr Inkster explained my problem and prescribed a medication to help.

Reviewed on Jul 21, 2021

Service before the procedure was great. However, during the procedure I was in pain and the pain continued after the procedure. Perhaps this is normal, but no one asked me about it or provided guidance afterwards. As well, the doctor did not tell me about my ulcer after the procedure. I found out by reading mychart report.

The only reason I wouldn't recommend the practice to someone else is because I was in pain during and after the procedure which doesn't seem common based on my family and friend's experiences with the same procedure. As well, I would have liked the doctors to speak with me or my family about the results after the procedure so I could ask questions. This was done for my husband at Northwestern hospital.

I guess the doctors ways are different from what I was used to. I had tests schedule every 6 months (liver and Blood) and egd every 6 months. None were scheduled at my appt. I was told to call in december to get a March EGD scheduled and a dr visit the same day prior to procedure, no test mentioned. I messaged the doctors on 7-15 about that. I have not gotten an answer. I did receive notice that my message was forwarded to the doctor. I since read the summary of the test and visit, It said I had covid, which I did not. My MELD score seems to have risen as well...not urgent but I feel I should have had a note next to test result like with prior dr to show the change. To be honest I actually wanted a different dr but was told she was on maternity leave. A bit disappointed BUT I realize I can't base care on 1 visit.with Dr. Inkster
