Biography

About Joanne Schneider, DNP, RN, CNP

During my 31 years at the Cleveland Clinic my role has focused on helping individuals with chronic pain, as well as acute on chronic pain. Over the years my job responsibilities have changed resulting in a diversity of expertise. I function as an interdisciplinary team member in the Chronic Pain Rehabilitation Program, which treats individuals with chronic pain, addiction and psychosocial issues. In the outpatient clinic, I see individuals for initial evaluations, provide medication management and psychotherapy, and follow-up to assess treatment outcomes. I educate nurses, medical students, residents, and fellows on pain management. I am the coordinator of the Center for Neurological Restoration advanced practice clinicians, facilitate various Foundation of Healthcare Communication courses, and lecture at Case Western Reserve University Frances Payton Bolton School of Nursing. In the past I have managed the inpatient acute/chronic pain hospital consult-service. I am a board member for the American Chronic Pain Association.

the provider did not want to get involved and just referred me elsewhere

She was very curt, cut me off each time I started speaking, and spent 90% of the time typing and looking at the computer. I really did not even need to be there. I also had to repeat almost every response; it seemed evident that she had presumed certain things and was bothered when my responses did not match her presumptions. It was one of the rudest and most marginalizing experiences I have ever had with a provider. The best thing she did was to recognize that the level of services I needed were beyond the scope of what she could provide. Unfortunately, the clinic I need is booked through January. So I will have to see Joanne at least one more time. I do not look forward to it. And I may very well seek treatment elsewhere.

I was surprised but pleased that I received a phone call from this provider the day after I messaged her. I didn't expect to be contacted that quickly.

The whole experience was very impersonal. I traveled a long way from Akron to downtown Cleveland and did not see a real connection from the care provider and no honest concern for my situation. she was very rote and my problem and pain have been going on so long that it's very personal to me and I am really down. I need someone to care

the "doctor" was very short with me, would not let me explain any of my concerns. would cut me off if I tried to explain what I am experiencing daily. I made a 3.5 hour trip for a visit I thought I might finally get some answers/relief and left upset and in tears. The first time I visited Cleveland Clinic it was amazing. This time was awful. Dr. Schneider really does not have bedside manners at all.

I just wouldn't recommend the doctor I saw today.
