Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 9/12/2018, Dr. Oberfeld has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. I am very happy with this doctor!

I had two pictures taken and a field vision test. When Dr. Oberfeld came into see me only one picture was in the computer. He had to go out and find out where they were. For the field vision test, the was equipment frozen then died and they couldn't get my test results. I had to reschedule the test and retake it again within two weeks. I would think techs should check to make sure the test results were complete and sent to the medical record before the doctor came into see the patient. I also believe if the testing equipment is old (which in this case I believe it was) it should be replaced.

Reviewed on Aug 8, 2018

dr kept saying that your glaucoma test was good, said it twice, I said to him what test are you talking about I have been sitting in the waiting room for over 1 hr and did not have any tests done. I know I was his last patient but had I not spoken up who knows. He looked at the test results on line and then stated Oh that was last year we need to do the test now. It took a few minutes for their testing machine to warm up as they had turned it off being the end of the day. I sat in the waiting room for over 1 hr with with 5 people ahead of me and then a 6th person came in and was called into the exam room before me. Total time in the office was 2 hrs for a normal eye exam will be considering another office as this is the send time this has happened.

waiting time after being checked in was 1 hr 45 min. I am concerned that Cle Clinic overbooks dr oberfield. this survey's questionsnot particularly suited to ophthalmologist review.

Reviewed on Jun 26, 2018

Dr Oberfeld is always conscientious about caring for patient. He takes time and answers all questions and listens to patients concerns then addresses them with patient & caregiver input. He apologizes for the wait which I know is due to overbooking, not him.

Reviewed on Jun 26, 2018

Dr Oberfeld is great. He always addresses all our concerns. The scheduling of appointments is overbooked making wait time overbearing. This time there was also not enough room in the waiting areas to accommodate all that were waiting. At one point there were 16 people waiting. We spent well over 1 hr 45 min at the office of which we saw either tech or doctor total of 20 min. This amount of wait time is inexcusable and indicates that patient care is not bottom line but rather making money. Actually considered not returning because the experience was so bad.
