About Paul Poommipanit, MD

Paul Poommipanit, MD, is an interventional cardiologist in the Invasive & Interventional Cardiology Section of the Tomsich Family Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute. He sees patients at Main Campus.

Specialty Interests: Coronary artery disease (CAD), percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), complex coronary disease, coronary chronic total occlusion (CTO)

Experience: Dr. Poommipanit is highly experienced in PCI for coronary disease, performing more than 250 procedures a year and treating more than 80 patients a year with CTO using PCI. In 2024 his success rate for CTOs was 97 percent with a major adverse cardiovascular event rate of less than 1 percent. His overall success rate for CTOs over nearly 10 years is 85 to 90 percent.

Dr. Poommipanit is board certified in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions.

Education: Dr. Poommipanit is a graduate of Tulane University School of Medicine, New Orleans. He completed his internship, internal medicine residency and fellowships in cardiology and interventional cardiology at Los Angeles Medical Center, University of California, Los Angeles.

Dr. Poommipanit joined the Cleveland Clinic medical staff in 2025 from University Hospitals (UH) where he had been director of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab and Chest Pain Center at UH Parma Medical Center since 2016. He also had been director of the Coronary Chronic Total Occlusion Program and co-director of the Complex High-risk Coronary Intervention Program, UH Harrington Heart and Vascular Institute since 2019.

Research, Publications and Speaking: Dr. Poommipanit has been an investigator on many industry-sponsored studies evaluating innovative techniques, tools and treatments for coronary disease. He has coauthored nearly 100 papers and abstracts published in leading peer-reviewed medical journals as well as several textbook chapters and has made numerous poster presentations on his research at national medical meetings.

Dr. Poommipanit was exceptional in discussing my condition and proposed changes In medication. I really appreciate that he called me at home later that week to discuss how I was doing and responded to some additional questions. He spent time discussing the chest pain I was experiencing, the causes and treatment. Itruly appreciate the care that he provided.
