Industry Relationships
Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

Dr. Smith finds a way to, at once, be endlessly caring and ready to hear my concerns and deal with each one in an efficient, yet thorough, manner. She explains things I don't understand or plans I have to take care of, such as medicines I'll be taking or procedures I need to schedule. She is so thorough, I have confidence that if there is a significant problem underlying my symptoms, she will find it or do whatever she can to help me find ways to manage those symptoms. My quality of life has improved since I started seeing Dr. Smith as I am better able to take care of myself and enjoy feeling good more of the time.

Dr. Smith's professionalism, compassion and care are an asset to me and my family and undoubtedly to the CC She has twice sent me to the ER from our meetings that saved me from much more serious consequences. My family and I are truly grateful for the relationship we have Dr. Smith.

Dr. Smith was outstanding. She was thorough in targeted questions and was patient if my responses were lengthier/deviated from her questions. She presented me with options for my care and her recommendations. She portrayed understanding of my symptoms and knowledge of medicine, and her confidence and ease in leading the appointment established trust.
