Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 9/30/2024, Dr. Carter has reported the financial relationships with the companies listed below. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. Dr Carter confirmed most of things I've learned about our healthcare and food systems in our country. I have never had a more thorough medical exam. I'm very hopeful that there is support from the Cleveland clinic for his vision and his patients.

Dr. Carter was excellent. He listened and offered suggestions.

Only issue was really the time it took to get the appointment. The alternative medicine dept was not accepting new patients when I started the process in March 2024. Once Dr Carter was taking new patients they were very good with outreach and scheduling.

Dr. Carter has the worst bedside manner I've ever experienced. He treated me as though I was a bother to him. Very curt answers. No explanations. It was a terrible experience. He was no help at all.

I'm not sure why functional medicine doctors are limited on treatments, testing or recommendations they can provide. It seems they can only advise on the nutrition side and not much more.

I had looked forward to seeing Dr. Carter in hopes that he would be able to shed some light on some of the odd responses my body was experiencing. It would be an understatement to say that he exceeded those expectations. He had obviously familiarized himself with my case. He asked relevant questions and answered my questions clearly. His listening skills are outstanding. HIs insights and explanations were both professional and thoughtful. He was attentive, caring, and thorough. I never felt rushed or in any way dismissed. He is obviously brilliant, but still extremely approachable. I left feeling like I had far more understanding of what is happening, and a clear path for my next steps. I am grateful and blessed that he accepted me as a patient.
