About Carlos Godoy Rivas, MD

Carlos Godoy Rivas, MD, is a general cardiologist in The Tomsich Family Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Miller Family Heart, Vascular and Thoracic Institute. He sees patients at Main Campus.

Specialty Interests: Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE), transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), transcatheter mitral valve replacement and repair, transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement and repair, left atrial appendage closure (Watchman procedure), valvular heart disease, stress tests, nuclear cardiology, preventive cardiology

Experience: Dr. Godoy Rivas is experienced in diagnosing and treating all types of heart disease. He performs more than 1,000 TTEs and TEEs a year and participates in hundreds of structural heart interventions, including TAVR, transcatheter mitral and tricuspid valve replacement and repairs, left atrial appendage closures and paravalvular leak closures. He is board certified in internal medicine, echocardiography, cardiology and nuclear cardiology.

Education: Dr. Godoy Rivas earned his medical degree cum laude from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras- Facultad de Ciencias Médicas, Tegucigalpa, Honduras. He completed his internal medicine residency at Cleveland Clinic and then a cardiology fellowship at the University of Connecticut/Hartford Hospital. He finished his specialty training with a fellowship in advanced structural echocardiography imaging at Columbia University, New York.

Dr. Godoy Rivas joined the Cleveland Clinic medical staff in 2023 after completing his fellowship at Columbia.

Research, Publications and Speaking: Dr. Godoy Rivas has coauthored more than two dozen research papers and abstracts published in leading peer-reviewed cardiology journals. He has presented his research at national medical meetings, including the European Society of Cardiology, American College of Cardiology and American Society of Echocardiography.
