Norm Kumins, MD, FACS, FSVS, is a staff surgeon in the Department of Vascular Surgery in The Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute. He sees patients and performs procedures at Hillcrest Hospital Campus.
Specialty Interests: Open and endovascular treatment of lower extremity ischemia, carotid artery stenting, abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissection
Experience: Physicians in Cleveland Clinic's Department of Vascular Surgery perform more than 8,000 procedures annually at locations throughout Northeast Ohio, using open and the latest endovascular (minimally invasive) methods.
Dr. Kumins has more than 20 years’ experience in treating patients with vascular diseases. He has specialized expertise in the latest endovascular treatments for abdominal and aortic aneurysms, the carotid arteries, and peripheral artery disease, including limb-threatening ischemia. He is board certified in general surgery and vascular surgery and is a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation.

Education: Dr. Kumins earned his medical degree from Chicago Medical School of Rosalind Franklin University, Chicago. He completed his residency in general surgery at University of Illinois and Affiliated Hospitals, Chicago. During his residency, he also was a research fellow in the Burn and Shock Trauma Unit at Loyola University, Maywood, Ill, and then in vascular surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He completed his subspecialty training as a resident in vascular surgery at The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio.
Prior to joining the Cleveland Clinic staff in 2022 Dr. Kumins was the lead vascular surgeon in the Harrington Heart and Vascular Institute, University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center, Beachwood, Ohio.
Research, Publications and Speaking: Dr. Kumins has been involved in clinical research for all of his medical career, dating back to 1994 when he was a general surgery resident. He has been Site Principal Investigator (PI) and Site Sub-investigator on multiple clinical trials of new stents and other endovascular treatments for lower extremity vascular disease, carotid artery stenosis, and aortic aneurysms.
Dr. Kumins has published extensively in leading medical and surgical journals, coauthoring more than 40 papers. He also has co-produced two educational videos on endovascular repair of abdominal aortic aneurysm and coauthored five surgery textbook chapters.He currently serves on the editorial boards of half-a-dozen significant publications in his field, including Journal of Vascular Surgery, Vascular Medicine and Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery.
Dr. Kumins is a frequent presenter at local and regional vascular surgery symposiums, speaking on the latest endovascular techniques and technologies.
