Biography

About Phoebe Lin, MD, PhD

Phoebe Lin, MD, PhD, graduated summa cum laude, Biochemistry, from Washington University, AOA with Honors from the MD/PhD program at the University of Illinois, then completed ophthalmology residency at UCSF, a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Duke University, and a uveitis fellowship at Casey Eye Institute, Oregon Health & Science University. At Cole Eye Institute, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, she performs clinical care in ocular inflammatory and retinal diseases, vitreoretinal surgery, educates residents and fellows, and performs research identifying novel therapeutic targets for the treatment of ocular inflammatory disease and macular degeneration. Specifically, her lab utilizes animal models of uveitis (an inflammatory condition of the middle lining of the eye) to address several pathways: leukocyte migration in autoimmune uveitis, immune regulation as a target for autoimmune uveitis, and the role of the mammalian commensal intestinal microbiota in intestinal immunity and systemic immunity affecting the development and mitigation of ocular inflammation. Dr. Lin’s lab is also investigating the impact of an intestinal dysbiosis that occurs in age-related macular degeneration, a disease that is caused by disruptions in innate immunity and fatty acid metabolism. She has published over 100 articles, book chapters, and books.

I hope that Dr. Lin is feeling better. I am thankful to her skill for repairing my retina and closely monitoring my recovery and ongoing vision.

Reviewed on Jan 10, 2024

Dr. Lin, (eye Dr.) Is very kind, smart and thorough. How er always rushed , and talks so fast.

Reviewed on Jan 2, 2024

Dr Lin is a highly competent doctor who explains her findings and possible treatments well. I feel well cared for by her.

Reviewed on Jan 2, 2024

Very friendly and knowledgeable. Even though I was diagnosed several years ago I did have any previous education about my condition. Doctor Lin took time to explain my diagnosis and offered suggestions for what I could do to minimize possible further damage.

Reviewed on Dec 19, 2023

Very disappointed. Dr. Linn was running over an hour behind. She appeared frustrated with the questions I asked and not caring at all. The nurse was much more helpful and kind.

Reviewed on Dec 19, 2023

She's awesome, but most she talks over my level of knowledge, so makes it difficult for me to understand. I don't know the differences in what eye injections I'm getting, so I just have to trust her level of expertise. She tends to get "frustrated" with me for not being able to keep up with her.

Reviewed on Dec 19, 2023

I think Dr. Lin is the best, so despite all the less then positive comments, I totally trust that she is doing the best she can to improve my vision. She does really care.

Reviewed on Dec 15, 2023

Dr Lin, doesn't take the time to explain what is going on, She never washes her hands before exam,. I would like to ask why they don't have proper equipment in the room.

Reviewed on Dec 15, 2023

Had to wait several weeks to see the doctor after referrals by other ophthalmologists for an ongoing inflammation of my eyes.

Reviewed on Aug 11, 2023

The bad is they made me an appointment with Dr See.I was suppose to be with a retinal doctor So dr see and his staff were great and did what they could and communicated with Dr Lin to get us in that day as we drove 6 hours there.Dr Lin and her assistant Dr Edwards I believe went over and beyond for me.

Reviewed on Jul 12, 2023

She's a wonderful/exceptional doctor and knows her stuff and I totally trust her. She is also very friendly. But she never actually sits down, looks you in the eye, and has any kind of discussion about my eye health and treatment. She already knows what she needs/wants to do - which Is good for my eye health and is her strength. It's difficult for her to shift her dialogue down to my "street" level. Most of the time I only see the back of her head while she's typing in stuff on her laptop.

Reviewed on Jul 11, 2023

GREAT EXPERIENCE. SEE IS MY EYE DOCTOR OF SPECIAL ATTENTION NEEDED ON MY EYES!

It's been a long journey in dealing with this eye issue. Dr. Lin has been there the whole time and has had many others to assist when needed. She has done a great job getting me back to good health free of the major pain I was having. Glad to have her as my doctor and advocate.

Reviewed on Jun 28, 2023

Dr. Lin reviewed scans and informed me that she would initiate a new pharmaceutical on my next visit. She stated the new med would require pre-authorization. She made the referral for pre-auth and I was notified within 48 hours of the approval for the medication to be injected on my next visit.

Reviewed on Jun 13, 2023

Very professional with great bed side manner. I am lucky to have been reffered to Lin as she well educated and actually listens to your concerns. She has improved my quality of life drastically. I can't thank her and her team enough!

Reviewed on Apr 12, 2023

Dr. Lin is phenomenal. Always very friendly, and talks to both me and my wife about issues, care, etc. She is the best!

Reviewed on Mar 28, 2023

The wait to see Dr. Linn was excessively long (2 hours). It seems to me that this is a system flaw that needs corrected being that she's the only retina specialist/ophthalmologist seeing patients at the Akron office.

Reviewed on Mar 3, 2023

Dr reiterated what the nurse reported about my case and the reason for my visit. She studied my first set of X-rays and discovered something, and send me for a second set of X-rays, which I was very thankful for the thorough TX I do receive at the Cleveland Clinic from all providers. A care would never receive here at home.
