Industry Relationships

Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 3/27/2024, Dr. Cantwell has reported the financial relationships with the companies listed below. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. I was thrilled with my experience as a new patient of Dr Cantwell. He (and his colleague) were friendly and welcoming upon initial introduction. As the appointment unfolded he was respectful, maintained open dialogue, asked exploratory questions and listened to every concern with care. I felt very safe, heard and seen at every part of the journey

I had some information from my local ultrasound that made me concerned. The doctor was highly helpful in explaining what was on the ultrasound.

An exceptional doctor with a lot of knowledge and compassion.

Dr. Cantwell is amazing and very knowledgeable and caring for his patients! It's taken me along time to find a ob/gyn that will listen and look for my best interest. So thank you to him and his amazing team.

Dr. Cantwell was not very empathetic to my concerns and was very rigid in considering potential treatment options. Our consultation ended up abruptly when it became clear Dr. Cantwell was not open to considering any "alternative" solutions that could help me - he did not suggest any referrals or anything of value.

I am very impressed with the professionalism of the doctor.

Dr. Cantwell is very understanding. He went over the procedure throughly and Communicated with me through the whole process. He's the best!

The doctor was very thorough, listened to all of my concerns, and gave me clear instructions for follow up and symptoms to look for. Also, this was my first experience with a male OB/GYN, and I was totally comfortable throughout the entire visit, including an exam.

Dr. Cantwell was fantastic. His staff talks highly of him. He was so professional, yet comforting. It was my first time seeing him and I felt like I've known him for years.

Dr. Cantwell always cares about what I have to say. He listens and he displays kindness and empathy. I was experiencing new onset of pain symptoms and I worry that I am judged based on a chronic pain diagnosis. Dr. Cantwell listened to everything I said, he came up with a plan based on that. I realized later that he truly listened to me and didn't brush me off. He cared enough to look into it, by ordering tests, and I'm incredibly grateful he did. It is hard for me to open up and trust care providers but Dr. Cantwell is one that I can speak openly too and I am grateful to have him as part of my team or care providers!
