Industry Relationships

Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 11/3/2023, Dr. Butchko has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. Click here to view a listing of instances where Cleveland Clinic has identified a Public Health Service (PHS)-Reportable Financial Conflict of Interest and has put measures in place to ensure that, to the extent possible, the design, conduct and reporting of the research is free from bias.

My daughter has been to so many providers regarding her autonomic disorder. Dr Butchko was the absolute best. He listened to her, understood her, discussed treatment, and scheduled a follow-up. By far the best appointment experience we have had.

Dr. Butchko is a wonderful doctor and an asset to the Cleveland Clinic. If only every doctor could have the same mannerisms, and care as he does, healthcare would be a million times better in this country.

I couldn't ask for a better doctor. I wish he specialized in everything! I'd use him as a PCP if I could.

I cannot say enough about Dr. Butchko; he was WONDERFUL. He listened without judgement to my no-medical-background explanation of what is going on with my daughter and validated our concerns. (I cried a little.) He explained POTS in detail but in a way that made perfect sense to us. We are hopeful and feel relief knowing she is in good hands. There is something to said for being heard and validated. We appreciate him so much.

Dr. Butchko very knowledgeable about POTS and very kind towards daughter explaining her symptoms & giving a plan.

Dr. Butchko was amazing. He listened to our concerns, he seems extremely knowledgeable on her condition and explained it to us, he gave us a whole new plan to manage symptoms, he made sure he answered all of our questions. He didn't make us feel rushed - he took his time to make sure we understood everything. He seemed very caring and thorough.

Always takes time to discuss concerns with my son. Which is important because he's the one having the symptoms. He knows his body. Then we discuss treatment options together.

Dr Buchko is one of the kindest doctors I have ever met. He engaged with my son and talked to him like a person. It's very hard to find that now a days. Very knowledgeable and always makes me feel like he has my child's interest at heart. It makes me feel very confident in his care.

We have a great deal of respect for Dr Butchko. He always takes his time with and makes sure we understand everything he is saying.

We love Dr. Butchko, he is very calm and so is his staff. It helps our child mirror that same composure during the visit. He makes sure we are well informed and got good understanding of the situation. Very reasonable and pragmatic in his approach. I didn't think it is easy for a toddler to do EKG and other tests but this team makes it easy for him. No crying, no fuss.

Dr. Butschko is an excellent doctor who takes time with his patients and parents. He truly listens and puts everyone at ease.
