Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 11/6/2023, Dr. Kerns has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Dr Kerns validated everything I had concerns or opinions about. She knew I wanted a more holistic approach without tons of medication, but also gave me an immediate option for specific care I've been asking other doctors for years. She made me feel seen, heard, and overall good about the path we are taking towards recovery from my condition

My second visit with Dr. Kerns; she is an excellent person.

Reviewed on Sep 5, 2023

I had, what I felt, were serious concerns. I was examined by a resident. When Dr. Kerns came in her exam could only be called cursory. My concerns were quickly dismissed. She barely looked at my affected skin. Then I was dismissed since she is moving her practice to Willoughby. I drove 40 min. To see her because she is an MD, a dermatologist, and I had concerns about my skin condition. I expected something different. It is not that I wanted to be told that something serious was wrong with me. What I wanted was to BE SURE nothing serious was wrong with me. Am I? Not really.

Due to a storm, I lost electricity so no garage door opener. I called to cancel/change my appointment. Much to my surprise I was asked if I could get there later in the afternoon. Of course I said yes because I could have my niece take me. It was wonderful to be able to see the doctor that day! Thanks!

Dr.Kerns is an exceptional physician and an asset for the Cleveland Clinic. I must say she is shoulders above the physicians that I have encountered at the clinic, except for ER physicians, as she listens carefully, takes into account your perspectives on the issues and competently considers the many differential diagnoses and explains and documents findings from tests and assessments. Treasure her as I know CC can be hard on their medical and nursing staff.

Seemed like appointment was a little rushed but the provider was nice and performed a thorough exam of skin. I thought a dermatologist might also check nails and hair for possible autoimmune condition.
