Biography

About Jessica Ruff, MD, MA, MSPH

Jessica Ruff, MD, MA, MSPH, has been appointed the Information Technology Medical Director for Patient Journey, and a staff physician in the department of Wellness and Preventive Medicine.

In her medical director role, Dr. Ruff will help define and execute the vision for optimizing the use of clinical applications with a focus on tools that impact the patient journey, including MyChart as a core tool. She will practice clinically in the department of Wellness and Preventive Medicine.

As a clinician, Dr. Ruff will focus on nutrition, exercise, stress management, sleep, and social connection to help patients make healthy lifestyle changes to combat chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity. 

Dr. Ruff completed her undergraduate degree at Miami University, and earned her medical degree from Case Western University. Her post-graduate training included a Master’s Degree in Bioethics and a certificate in Health Informatics from Case Western and a Master’s Degree in Public Health from Meharry Medical College.

Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Ruff researched the feasibility and acceptability of personal health records of chronic disease patients in Western Kenya as a Fogarty Global Health Fellow. She followed this with a short informatics-consulting period, in which she worked with the AMPATH population health initiative. Dr. Ruff returned to Cleveland to complete her Clinical Informatics Fellowship at MetroHealth Medical Center, where she focused on finding ways to use technology to improve the help of vulnerable populations.

Dr. Ruff enjoys trying out new restaurants, traveling the world, reading suspense thrillers, and cycling in her free time.

Dr. Ruff was very informative and polite. She listened to my issues and took the time to answer. She listened to my lifestyle and health habits and suggested solutions that were in alignment with my lifestyle. I felt like my voice was heard and I mattered during our visit, more than I can say for some of my previous visits with other physicians.
