Shady Nakhla, MD, is an electrophysiologist in the Section of Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing in the Tomsich Family Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute. He sees patients at Main Campus.

Experience: Dr. Nakhla specializes in heart rhythm disorders, performing ablations for the most common types of arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter and ventricular tachycardia, as well as less common cardiac electrical disorders such as Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. He also is experienced in implanting pacemakers and defibrillators to manage arrhythmias.
Dr. Nakhla is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease.

Education: Dr. Nakhla earned his medical degree from Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar, graduating with academic distinction. He completed his internship and internal medicine residency at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore. Subsequently, he served as an Assistant Chief of Service in the Osler Housestaff Program at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr Nakhla came to Cleveland Clinic in 2015 as a cardiovascular medicine fellow and continued his training at Cleveland Clinic as a fellow in electrophysiology.
Dr. Nakhla joined the Cleveland Clinic medical staff in 2021.
Research, Publications and Speaking: Dr. Nakhla has coauthored scientific papers on ablation and pacing published in peer-reviewed medical journals and has made poster presentations at prestigious national medical meetings such as American College of Cardiology and Heart Rhythm Society. He also has authored chapters in a clinical cardiology reference book and a board review prep guide.
About Dr. Nakhla: “I enjoy electrophysiology because of the interplay it has between bedside clinical judgement, technology, procedural skill and patient interaction. Seeing how impactful a single ablation lesion or pacemaker implant can be to a patient’s quality of life or longevity is gratifying and why we wake up every morning.”
Leisure Activities: In his leisure time, Dr. Nakhla enjoys playing a variety of sports, including tennis, squash, soccer and golf, travel and spending time with his family.

Dr. Nakhla was thoughtful and responsive. He listened intently and provided specific information regarding my concerns. He provided me with some education about the heart and my condition. This support was appreciated and highly valued. This is his world, but he took the time to explain a very complicated organ in the body to me in terms I understood He calm demeanor is reassuring to a patient who has to be there. I am switching my cardiac care to the Cleveland Clinic and Dr. Nakhla.

Dr. Nakhla has always provided excellent care. He takes all necessary time to explain the patient's condition, recommended procedures, and answers to any question the patient may have. He treats the patient with kindness and respect. He is highly skilled in his field of expertise and gives the patient confidence in the prescribed course of treatment. I am a physician. I was very impressed with the whole experience at Cleveland Clinic especially this physician. He was obviously well trained. He was very attentive to my history. Overall the experience was good. The appointment had to be scheduled months in advance, but staff was very accommodating by adjusting the date when it was discovered I had been scheduled with the wrong doctor/specialist. From there everything went as scheduled.
