Leben Tefera, MD, is a staff physician in the Vascular Medicine Section of the Tomsich Family Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute. He sees patients at Cleveland Clinic main campus.

Experience: The Section of Vascular Medicine in Cleveland Clinic’s Tomsich Family Department of Cardiovascular Medicine offers comprehensive care for diseases of the vascular and lymphatic systems, including hyper-coagulable disorders. The section is home to one of the most active vascular laboratories in the country, with more than 2,200 clinical studies performed per month.
Dr. Tefera is experienced in the medical management of patients with all forms of vascular disease to help them reduce their risk of blood vessel blockages as well as the treatment of patients who develop venous thromboembolism.

Education: Dr. Tefera earned his Doctorate of Medicine from the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine, and completed his internal medicine residency at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. During his residency Dr. Tefera fulfilled the requirements for the Leadership in Medical Education track and earned an Emotionally Intelligent Leader Certificate from Case Western Reserve University Weatherhead School of Management. He was selected to serve as Chief Medical Resident in his final year. He received his specialty training as a fellow in Vascular Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Tefera was appointed to the Cleveland Clinic medical staff in 2020 upon completion of his fellowship.
Research, Publications and Speaking: Dr. Tefera has been an investigator on research studies related to cardiovascular diseases as well as global health and infectious disease. He has coauthored scientific papers on these studies published in peer-reviewed journals and presented the abstracts at leading medical meetings, including American College of Cardiology, Heart Failure Society of America and International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation.

Leisure Activities: In his leisure time, Dr. Tefera trains for marathons and enjoys travel and playing the piano.

The doctor was fantastic and very knowledgeable about my condition. He tested me for a condition that could be causing my dvts that no provider thought of in 30 years. Though we are 2 hours away I am continuing with him as my provider!!
