Industry Relationships

Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 10/22/2024, Dr. Chen has reported the financial relationships with the companies listed below. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. Click here to view a listing of instances where Cleveland Clinic has identified a Public Health Service (PHS)-Reportable Financial Conflict of Interest and has put measures in place to ensure that, to the extent possible, the design, conduct and reporting of the research is free from bias.

We are so thankful to have met Dr. Wei Chen. We had received a lot of misinformation previously from other doctors regarding our young daughter's primary lymphedema diagnosis. We wish we had found Dr. Chen years ago & we would have taken different actions to manage her care that would have prevented her lymphedema from progressing. We feel so grateful and relieved as parents to finally have a treatment plan to move forward that will keep the disease from progressing. We cannot express enough how thankful we are to Dr. Chen and his team.

Reviewed on Jun 4, 2024

Wait time to get appts are very long and wait times at appointments very very long. On Wed I waited over 5 hours. I also do not like that I could not get on the surgery schedule right after my doctor appointment in person but was told someone would call me to schedule surgery. Last time I was told that no one in scheduling called for over two weeks till I finally called myself just to make the appointments I had last week. But I love Dr Chen s interest, skill and passion for his work in lymphedema.

Plastic surgery scheduling needs to be completely revamped! My appointment with Dr Chen was scheduled by assistance with my PCP by a scheduller at Mentor Office. That is how I finally got an appointment with plastic surgeon!

Reviewed on May 30, 2024

My situation is complicated due to the time out since eye fracture injury and consultation with plastic surgeon. Dr Chen was very helpful to give me the information and took the time to call Dr Rampazzo for additional info re: whether I was a candidate for orbital repair at this point. He expedited an appointment with Dr Rampazzo for Monday 6/3/24 to discuss my options. Dr Chen answered all my questions during my visit-he was very attentive and caring.

There seems to be a disconnect between my doctor's department and scheduling. This was my second appointment at Cleveland Clinic and both required me to call more than once to finally talk with a scheduling person, even though I was told by my doctor's office that I would be called to schedule.

Reviewed on Nov 9, 2023

Dr. Wei Chen gives an explanation whenever needed and explains all risks thoroughly. The PA Erika Hopkins has improved greatly in listening to my concerns and allowing my participation in my care. There still needs to be more acceptance of ownership when there are issues in care. There is some disconnect between issues after surgery and issues caused by improper patient actions in after surgery care. PA Erika has improved greatly in listening to the paitient when they express what they need for pain managent.
