Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.
To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.
As of 2/7/2019, Dr. Unwala has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Dr Unwala was one of the friendliest physicians I've ever encountered. He tried to make me feel at ease even though he could tell I was scared to death.

We chose Cleveland Clinic because of it's stellar reputation and so far we have not been disappointed. Dr. Unwala and his team strike us as selfless, considerate, professional and truly concerned about their patient. Appointments are on time and everyone seems willing to go the extra mile. Very comfortable with our decision to drive here from New Jersey.

When a person is aware of all of their medical problems and or history it shouldn't be said by the provider "Oh man, you have so many things wrong with you!" The intro was made by mispronouncing my name although I got his correct and speaking in third person of all of my health problems even some that have zero relation to the urological system. Upon scheduling the appointment I have to say why I'm requesting the appointment and during triage also state my reasons for coming. He blurted out my health issues and then said " but I don't know why you're here to see me today." He then asked me not to be offended, but am I a decent reader. I said yes and he proceeded to type my after care summary while the screen was turned towards me as if he didn't want to say it aloud or was truly testing me to see if i was capable of reading. If it was a matter of privacy he wouldn't have came in blurting out my personal health issues. I felt offended that he asked me about my reading abilities and how do I know about medical terminology as if that knowledge is beyond my mental capacity. In all it was a poor experience, if I wasn't able to read further instructions should be discussed verbally until he is sure I understand. It only made me wonder is this how he treats all his patients? Is this the common introduction? Are all patients asked if they are good readers?
