Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.
To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. Dr McGinley was amazing. I came armed with an extreme amount of questions, many of them about new research, alternative measures, and comparing medications. Dr McGinley was not only courteous but very knowledgeable, especially about care that isn't traditional. She was respectful about how i wanted to treat my body--namely that I don't believe drugs alone will help. I have been told by another neurologist at Cleveland CLinic to "just eat less so you lose weight." Which was not only offensive, honestly, but felt really ignorant for a doctor to say. Dr McGinley understood that I wanted to treat my whole body, and answered my questions honestly and fairly ("if it makes you feel good do it, but also take your medicine" that works for me!). I can't express how happy I am to have a Dr that treats me and all my questions with respect. I did not feel looked down upon. I can't recommend her enough, honestly, and I'm sooo happy to finally find a neurologist I can stick with!

Dr. McGinley is one of the most supportive, informed, and helpful clinicians I have encountered. I felt confident in her expertise and truly "heard," and I felt like we collaborated together in discussing the right course of action. Thank you!
