Matthew Deren, MD is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon in the Division of Adult Reconstruction. He specializes in knee and hip replacement surgeries, including direct anterior total hip replacement, robotic-assisted total and partial knee replacements, as well as complex and revision knee and hip replacements. He sees patients at Mentor Hospital, Euclid Hospital and Main Campus.
Dr. Deren completed his undergraduate studies at Yale University, followed by medical school at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University. He then continued his training with orthopaedic residency at Brown University and Rhode Island Hospital where he received the Haffenreifer Housestaff Excellence Award as one of the best chief residents in the entire medical system. He then completed an orthopaedic trauma fellowship at Brown University and Rhode Island Hospital, followed by a fellowship in Adult Reconstruction at the Cleveland Clinic in 2018. In 2022, Dr. Deren returned to the Cleveland Clinic as a Staff Orthopaedic Surgeon after practicing at the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine. He is currently the Associate Fellowship Director for the Orthopaedic Adult Reconstruction Fellowship. In his free time, he enjoys fishing, hunting, woodworking, and spending time with his family.

Dr Deren is a highly skilled and trained orthopedic surgeon who has compassion. I recommend him highly. He welcome difficult challenging cases! He has the ability, training and caring heart to help patients! He has excellent communication skills so I felt prepared for the operation. The preoperative tests and after care visits were organized and smoothly enacted. Appreciate excellent care from the Cleveland Clinic

I was impressed with Dr. Deren. If I need any further knee surgery, I will choose him. The entire office staff was great, particularly the young woman who took us into the exam room to get my medical history.

The doctor essentially gave me no alternative to the orthopedic problem and pain I have except to stretch. Gave me no options for next steps. Cleveland Clinic was my last resort. I feel let down.

When I had my first appt with Dr. Deren's PA I was disappointed with his lack of answering questions. He was constantly typing. He didn't introduce himself when he walked in and walked out the door in front of us never saying the appt was over. He could use training in talking to patients, looking them in the eye and giving clearer responses.
