Matthew Deren, MD is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon in the Division of Adult Reconstruction. He specializes in knee and hip replacement surgeries, including direct anterior total hip replacement, robotic-assisted total and partial knee replacements, as well as complex and revision knee and hip replacements. He sees patients at Mentor Hospital, Euclid Hospital and Main Campus.
Dr. Deren completed his undergraduate studies at Yale University, followed by medical school at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University. He then continued his training with orthopaedic residency at Brown University and Rhode Island Hospital where he received the Haffenreifer Housestaff Excellence Award as one of the best chief residents in the entire medical system. He then completed an orthopaedic trauma fellowship at Brown University and Rhode Island Hospital, followed by a fellowship in Adult Reconstruction at the Cleveland Clinic in 2018. In 2022, Dr. Deren returned to the Cleveland Clinic as a Staff Orthopaedic Surgeon after practicing at the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine. He is currently the Associate Fellowship Director for the Orthopaedic Adult Reconstruction Fellowship. In his free time, he enjoys fishing, hunting, woodworking, and spending time with his family.

I was able to see the Dr after my left knee x-ray which was a service done after I initially saw the Dr . I was able to get that service done and return immediately back to his office to have a totally complete appointment

My in person and on line experience with Dr. Deren have been extremely good. Appointments were on time and information was easy to understand. Dr. Deren was always friendly and answered questions with ease and confidence. The hip revision he did for me went extremely well and I am now walking pain free. I plan to stay In contact with Dr. Deren for future on line visits. His confidence and professional approach as a doctor made me fill very comfortable during a very difficult surgery and after during recovery. I am very glad that Dr. Deren was able to do my surgery at Cleveland Clinic.

I like Dr.Deren from the start. I saw him because a PT therapist did a very strong assessment on my leg and my hip extender muscle was over steched and caused me pain. It has been a month and it still hurts. I stopped the PT that caused the pain and am doing the less strenuious exercises to maintain my muscles.

Dr. Deren is an exceptional physician. He did not rush the appointment. He took time to discuss benefits and risks of having a joint replacement and reviewed alternate solutions for relief.
