Industry Relationships

Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 11/2/2020, Dr. Petro has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. When the resident-I think this person was a resident-when the resident was asking me questions before Dr. Petro came in to speak w/me-I thought his delivery wastoo strong. I would have appreciated a more gentle delivery. I honestly had difficulty being specific about my symptoms as they related to the hiatal hernia b/c I was having symptoms relating, also, to allergies. It was very difficult for me to know which was which symptom b/c I did not know the source of my symptoms.

Dr Pedtro was very pleasant to talk with and explained things to me very well about my situation and that the best solution would be to have gastric bypass surgery which I would like to have another talk with him about because I do still have additional questions regarding this surgery. my understanding is that he would be referring me to another physician to do the surgery and I would like to know more about this surgeon before I make my final decision. Overall I would rate the visit very well for the fact that Dr Pedtro gave me the information as to what my next step would be and also that I would have to loose weight prior to my surgery. I do believe that I'm going to need help achieving this although I'm trying on my own now to do everything that I can to loose weight.I failed to get the Doctor's telephone number to get back in touch with him and let him know what I chose to do about my situation. I'm going to call the Clinic and ask for his office and see if I can leave a message for him and ask that he return my call. I do like the opportunity to have a telephone visit with the doctor without having to drive to the Clinic just to find out that he's going to refer me to another doctor since I live in Hartville and it's over an hour drive in good weather and that's if you don't have any traffic problems or delays for any reasons. So we usually have to get up very early to allow for unexpected hazards in getting there on time for our appointment. The virtual visit is wonderful if you aren't needing tests or need to be checked by the doctor. It was a good experience.

Scheduling and logging in to the appointment was no problem. However, we waited for 45 minutes before anyone at the doctor's office joined the meeting. it should be set up for them to call the patient when they are ready for the meeting.
