As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.
To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

I was seen in the ED and when I called for a next day follow up I was connected directly with Dr. Erwin who was on call (he is not my primary provider). I was very impressed by Dr. Erwin as he spent time talking with me on the phone, gave me his on call contact info so that I could contact him directly if symptoms worsened or I had questions. He also added me on first thing the next morning even with a full schedule so that I could be seen prior to going in to work. Thank you for being a great provider!

When I got the appointment with Dr. Erwin, it was an emergency. I had shingles in my eye and I was scared and in pain. He was kind, caring, but also very professional with me. He explained what was happening with my eye in ways that I could understand. He even gave me his cell phone number in case my condition changed over the weekend. The office staff was caring and very "human" with me. They understood my fear, commiserated, and in each ensuing visit (because I am still not completely healed) they have celebrated with me as my condition gets better and better. I have never been sick like this before, and I have to say, the treatment I received at this office has been a bright spot in a very rough road.

This appointment was made due to an ophthalmological emergency. Dr. Erwin was wonderful. Very empathetic, very informed, and someone that I could trust in a moment when I was in fear and in pain. He was all that I could have hoped for - he even gave me his personal cell phone number in case my eyesight changed over the weekend. What a fabulous doctor - what a wonderful experience!

Dr Erwin answered every question in detail and didn't rush because I was the last patient of the day. I drive nearly 5 hours annually and always appreciate the care and patience CC providers give me.

Dr. Erwin was very thorough in collecting history and in completing the eye exam. He was calm and took his time explaining the diagnosis to me. He answered all of my questions and was reassuring to me. Dr. Erwin took the time to get an appointment for me with the retinal specialist the next morning. Definitely went above and beyond to put me as the patient first.

I was given information about my diagnosis and options for treatment. Dr. Erwin showed me the computer screen with my scans and explained it thoroughly. He is a very thorough and kind caregiver.
