Industry Relationships

Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 10/18/2017, Dr. Markakis has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. waited about 10 to 15 minutes was told the dr. was running a little behind

Dr. Markarkis is excellent. Carefully explained my condition. Gave me time for questions and answered them thoroughly. He gave me clear instructions about eye drops and follow-up instructions. He told me what to look for and why I should return.

Dr. George Markakis is an excellent doctor. He is smart, a careful listener, has a concerned manner. He explained things clearly and answered questions clearly. His office runs smoothly. His practice from front desk employee to assistants to him is excellent. I am very grateful to have him as my eye doctor.

Bad experience with this office since Dr. Markakis joined the Clinic. Too many appts scheduled. Too long waiting - up to 2 hours. He is a compassionate doctor who takes his time with each patient. His appts should not be scheduled so close together.

Dr. Markokis is very thorough yet easy to talk to. He puts everyone at ease.

At this visit I had a series of eye tests and then saw the doctor. We are informed to expect 2 hours for everything to be completed; but it actually took less then that. Dr. Markokis had many patients that day but we all moved through the process very efficiently.

I waited for my appointment slightly over an hour and a half. Some of the other patients were annoyed at the wait time. But, Dr. Markakis had an emergency patient and another that had some difficult problems. For me, he can take all the time with these patients that he needed to render help because if I had the problems, I would want him to take all the time he needs with me. Isn't that the definition of a great, concerned physician? It is in my mind.

Dr. Markakis is an excellent doctor and I won't go to anyone else.

There is a question about follow up care. I sent 2 my chart messages and called the office. After 5 days still no response!

Thorough and easily understood.

They worked well as a team.

Dr. Markakis and his staff were incredibly kind and respectful. I appreciated that very much. I also did not feel rushed during the appointment.

Reviewed on Sep 8, 2017

Dr went out of his way to help make sure that the pharmacy used for my prescriptions would honor a manufacturer discount - this was very much appreciated.

When I finally got to the doctor the care was exceptional
