About Naoki Umeda, MD

Naoki Umeda, MD is an Integrative Medicine specialist with an interest in cancer, nutrition/food therapy, and therapeutic touch.  He is originally from Japan, where the average life expectancy is the longest in the world. He has more than 6 years of experience providing Integrative Medicine for cancer patients (Integrative Oncology).  After receiving his medical degree from a national medical school in Tokyo, Japan, Dr. Umeda trained as an Internal Medicine resident and Gastroenterology fellow in Tokyo.  He then completed an advanced fellowship of Hepatology (liver disease) and a fellowship of Gastroenterology Oncology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Based on his experience of treating patients in "clinically tough situations" such as liver transplant recipients and advanced stage cancer patients, Dr. Umeda became more interested in "whole person" and "Body/Mind/Spirit" care.  He then worked as an Integrative Medicine staff physician and combined Western Medicine with Eastern/Traditional Medicine such as acupuncture, Chinese herbal therapy, and Ayurveda.  He realized this blend would produce a beautiful "synergy effect" to relieve both physical and spiritual pain, and to improve quality of life for cancer patients.

Dr. Umeda provides one-hour Integrative Medicine consultations to create personalized treatment plans for patients at the Cleveland Clinic Wellness Institute.

Dr. Umeda is the best!

Reviewed on May 16, 2018

I spoke to Dr. Umeda via a tele-computer connection, as I live thousands of miles away from Ohio. It was amazing to me how quickly I could get the app't and also then how quickly Dr. Umeda familiarized himself with my med records that I had faxed. It was a very helpful app't and his follow-up to my questions afterward was very fast - overnight.

Dr. Uhmeda has been exceptional in diagnosing and treating me. I have recommended him to all my family and friends.

Waiting was not a problem at all. The Doctor actually came to the waiting area and took me to the exam room.

Reviewed on Mar 5, 2018

The doctor listened to all of my concerns, asked questions to find out more. My issue has so many associated problems, but the doctor sifted through them, explained his diagnosis of my problems. He explained what he wanted to do to help me start on a road to better health. I was to have a blood test, begin a Gluten Free Diet, and start on a regimen of supplements to help support and heal my body. He not only gave me a list of the supplements and spices he wanted me to use, but he showed me some pictures of the supplements that were available through Amazon. I left with a visit summary that included this information. I made an appointment for 4 weeks instead of 3 as he had noted because I wanted to stay with him as I feel comfortable that he is going to help me. I have been impressed with his quick response to my follow-up questions to him via MyChart regarding a couple of the supplements. The problem that brought me to see him has been ongoing all of my life, and I am desperate for resolving it. I am hopeful this is where I will finally get help.

Dr. Umeda told me to return in 3 weeks, but I found at checkout that would mean seeing a different doctor. When I said that, the staffer kindly asked if I would like to do the visit in 4 weeks to see Dr. Umeda. I appreciated her helpfulness.
