Industry Relationships

Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 9/27/2018, Dr. Sharma has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. Click here to view a listing of instances where Cleveland Clinic has identified a Public Health Service (PHS)-Reportable Financial Conflict of Interest and has put measures in place to ensure that, to the extent possible, the design, conduct and reporting of the research is free from bias.

All aspects of care with Dr. Sharma and all support staff is exceptional. No one acts like its a job - they really care.

Reviewed on Nov 7, 2018

Dr Sharma is excellent in his field - I take my daughter to him for uveitis and he has her health as his utmost priority.

Reviewed on Sep 25, 2018

Dr. Sharma has a very professional and pleasant personality. I have a great deal of respect for his knowledge and care.

just to clarify. I was seen within 15 minutes of my appt time...but I do not see the provider until the end of appt. I do tests etc first. so wait time up and down stairs was acceptable. Dr. Sharma came in when he should have with little to no wait for him. He needs the testing done first so he can do a thorough exam

I love Dr. Sharma he is very good at explaining. he is patient and aware of my conditions needs. He remembers that I find it very reassuring to literally hear the words that my good eye is still unaffected and he always, at every appt, makes a point to actually say the words that that eye is fine. That is very kind of him, I know that he would tell me if it was being affected but he goes the extra mile to say its fine and that is very reassuring and kind of him

to add more to my confidence in this particular provider. I have recommended him several times over the course of my treatment to friends and family. There is even a friend willing to travel from Maryland specifically for Dr. Sharma so they can get his advice.

Reviewed on Sep 14, 2018

My appointment was to get a second opinion and guidance on a medical condition. I did not ask for a specific doctor. I was very satisfied with my meeting with Dr. Sharma. He allayed my fears by explaining clearly what I should expect going forward. My only comment on the clinic itself would be self parking which was difficult for me to find.

I waited 3 hours to spend roughly 5 minutes with the physician

Reviewed on Jul 30, 2018

Dr. Sharma is an excellent doctor. He has helped me when I was having issues other than my eyes. He is very caring and very very good at what he does.I have a lot of confidence in him and how he is treating my uveitis .

I was frustrated with the long wait for Dr. Sharma. I arrived at 1p for 1:30 appt. Almost immediately was taken to room by nurse for background info. Sent for imaging - went fine. Back to Dr. Sharma waiting area by 1:45p. 2:15 to exam room for exam by colleague of Dr. Sharma and student. Finished by 2:45p. Told to wait for Dr. Sharma. 3:30p asked receptionist when Dr. Sharma would be seeing me. He finally came, spent ten minutes with me. Suggested I make another appt with him in 6 mo. His colleague and student spent considerably time with me and answered questions. Dr. Sharma was clear and informative, short, to the point. I do not understand why I waited so long to see him when he gave me no new information. I could have just had this appt with the colleague and student.

I only waited a couple minutes for the Doctor. I thought that was very good.

Reviewed on Jul 3, 2018

always rec'd good interactions with dr and staff. I had misunderstanding about something said during one visit called and dr returned my call within 24-48 hrs, which surprised me and answered my questions and cleared my confusion. very pleased with this due to previous dr wasn't willing or able to speak to their patient on the phone to clear up misunderstandings or questions of patients.0

I didn't call. We scheduled at my follow up appt 2 weeks prior. I also did NOT see Dr. Sharma this visit, his fellow did the laser procedure. but Dr. Sharma is awesome and I always recommend him and Cole eye clinic

*Dr. Sharma is an expert in his field (Uveitis) and I (and my daughter) trust him with her care completely. He is kind, caring and takes as much time as needed to explain medication, testing, procedures, etc.

Reviewed on Apr 3, 2018

Dr Sharma told me he was going to keep me on the med he had prescribed on my prior visit, and if at some point, it no longer worked, he would have to resort to the injections. Not what I wanted to hear, but I'm glad he told me.

maybe it's a function of the malady, but I'm told there isn't anything to do but wait. I was hoping for some kind of intervention to accelerate resolution.
