Industry Relationships

Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 7/22/2020, Dr. Rush has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. Click here to view a listing of instances where Cleveland Clinic has identified a Public Health Service (PHS)-Reportable Financial Conflict of Interest and has put measures in place to ensure that, to the extent possible, the design, conduct and reporting of the research is free from bias.

I'm glad the clinic is doing this and I hope they stick with it once Covid is over. It is a profound relief to not have to drive downtown and back to see Dr. Rush as I see her often, I live 45 minutes away, and gas and parking costs can really add up, not to mention the stress of driving downtown as driving can be very difficult for me and sometimes I need to arrange a ride. Please do not stop offering this service.

Dr. Rush showed genuine interest in me as a person, my job, what was happening in my job, and how that affected my condition. She showed concern with the fact that I had Covid for 24 days and how that helped me with my issues and how I need to continue seeing the positives in what I go through. She continued to help me see where my stress is in my life.

For talking with Dr. Rush a video visit is fine, however, with my other Dr.'s I'm not in favor of the video visits.

Dr. Rush's administrative staff is great to deal with. They are always upbeat, enthusiastic, and conversational. They're efficient and competent. They never sound burned-out, distracted, or burdened.

The staff at the Cleveland Clinic is amazing. I have yet to have an experience with Dr. Rush, Dr. Yu, Linsey, Alyssa, and the additional staff that is less than stellar.

People seldom know how to speak to me about my illness and I seldom trust that anyone will react appropriately. I am extremely sensitive to phony sympathy or overly-demonstrative compassion. Dr. Rush is totally different. When you first meet her you'll see that she has a very "light" professional demeanor. She's appropriately reserved, not intense or overly sympathetic. However, she is profoundly authentic, compassionate, and frankly -- wise. Her emotional intelligence and instincts are remarkable. I have tremendous respect for her and that's why I trust her. Dr. Rush makes me feel truly understood. Honestly, I am an extremely challenging patient. She won me over. No one else ever has. If you've been referred to her, no matter your illness or issues, I strongly urge you to give her a shot.

I have to call the office often. Dr. Rush's scheduler Sarah is courteous, upbeat, understanding, and efficient. She's always a pleasure to deal with. I've also often dealt with Kourtney, who is incredibly easy to talk to, very real, with a great attitude and fantastic sense of humor. I thoroughly enjoy speaking with her. Sarah and Kourtney are both assets to the clinic. You couldn't hope for your staff to serve the patients better. (Not to leave them out -- I've also spoken with Darnell a few times and he's always been very helpful and pleasant. I know there's also a woman named Melissa, but I've only spoken with her briefly once -- but I'd assume based on the other staff that she's also quite good at her job. I've just primarily dealt with Sarah and Kourtney). I have never had a bad experience when calling Dr. Rush's office.
