Industry Relationships

Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 12/6/2018, Dr. Whitmer has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. Dr Witmer is always personal and relatable. Her care plans involve my input and next steps are always clear. This visit we discussed an unrelated health matter to which she was attentive and empathetic. She made a referral for me to an unrelated specialty which was appreciated.

Dr. Whitmere is the finest endocrinologist that I have experienced. She is knowledgeable and spends much time explaining medications and reactions.

My doctor and I ALWAYS discuss my illness, my symptoms and the treatment thereof. She listens thoughtfully to me. And I listen to her. We always have an excellent give and take.

Dr. Whitmer spent nearly 30 minutes in the room with me discussing my health. 30 minutes 1 on 1 is unheard of these days with a physician. it was really appreciated and showed how invested Dr. Whitmer is in my health.

I have seen several endocrinologists the last few years. Dr. Whitmer is by FAR the most intelligent, attentive, approachable endocrinologist I have seen. It is clear that she really knows her stuff but our dialogue never made me feel diminished or rushed and it was consistently clear that she had my best interests at heart. I hope to never have another endocrinologist; she's everything I've alwaus hoped for!

Dr. Whitmer is the best doctor I've ever had. She cares and she listens. Her discussions with me are always helpful and informative. I've learned a lot from her.

My doctor was rude and condescending.

Reviewed on May 21, 2018

my provider treats me as a number instead of a person. she's dismissive of my questions and rushes through the appointment. I once asked if she had recommendations for therapists who were familiar with type 1 diabetes and she replied, "No, I don't" and moved right on to analyzing my blood sugar numbers without further addressing my mental health.

Reviewed on May 21, 2018

The provider I saw seemed genuinely concerned and caring. She is very pleasant to see. Always presentable and professional.

Reviewed on May 21, 2018

It's great that you can show up for your appointment and be taken to the exam room within 15 minutes of your arrival but not so great when you have to wait in the exam room 30 to 45 minutes before the doctor ever comes in. I would rather wait in the reception area then sit in a closed room with no windows or music to keep you occupied. I sometimes do not mind the wait as I know the doctor can be delayed but I don't want to be in a room that is all closed up. I tend to fall asleep waiting in silence but if I am in the receptionist area I tend to be more alert.

Dr. Dorota Whitmer was very kind, courteous and professional. She prescribed a treatment routine, with medication, as well as diet, to help lower my glucose level, based on my living habits. She understands my daily routine and adjusted medication around it.
