Industry Relationships
Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.
To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.
As of 10/2/2024, Dr. Scheman has reported the financial relationships with the companies listed below. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. Dr. Scheman is amazing! I learned so much and am continuing to learn between visits from her references and homework. I think I've made more advancements in my treatment thanks to her guidance over 3 weeks than perhaps in the last 4 years combined. She is on to something important (and for me, too long neglected), and is a master of the literature and how best to make it accessible to patients. Thank you!!!!

Dr. Sheman is excellent. She listened to my concerns and explained the root of the problem, which was a long-standing one that I was beginning to think was insolvable. I have improved enormously by listening to her podcasts, and am very grateful to have had her help.

This provider seems knowledgeable but also somewhat insensitive with her choice of questions at times.

The Cleveland clinic has always been known as a stellar hospital. I saw multiple doctors when I went. They all explained everything to me a great place to go.

The doctor couldn't have been more awesome! Her knowledge was so impressive but she explained things so I could understand and I didn't feel "dumb" for asking questions! My husband said she was his favorite of the day!!!
