Industry Relationships

Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 11/7/2018, Dr. Gabbard has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. Click here to view a listing of instances where Cleveland Clinic has identified a Public Health Service (PHS)-Reportable Financial Conflict of Interest and has put measures in place to ensure that, to the extent possible, the design, conduct and reporting of the research is free from bias.

The hospital is 4 hrs away from me. we stayed at Holiday Inn. It was quite expensive for people who are broke. $19 A night for parking is absolutely rediculous. I've never had to pay for parking at a hospital. The room was very nice but not for poor patients! DR wants your opinion & testing results, because you're the best.

Main scheduling was not informed that Dr. Gabbard's appointments needed to be scheduled directly with his office (i.e. his template was closed to the main scheduler). This provided a bit of confusion trying to get my appointment set up. I ultimately got to the right place, but it would be helpful to notify the primary scheduler that patients need to call his office directly.

Dr. Gabbard is a wonderful physician. I appreciate his responsiveness to MyChart questions as well.

I have been coming to the Cleveland Clinic from out of state. The care I have received has been excellent. Everyone I come into contact with (from surgeons to housekeeping) has been friendly, respectful, and competent in whatever job they are doing. Dr. Gabbard is an excellent doctor. I have asked to become an established patient of his. He has shown interest in my health issues. I am very comfortable with his performing procedures and have a high level of trust in his ability.

I am amazed at how fast I was able to get an appointment to see the doctor. I found everyone to be so friendly and courteous.

I actually needed a procedure and not an office appointment. Dr. Gabbard's assistant and scheduler did their best to get me a cancellation as soon as possible, and did so 4 weeks earlier than the first date I was able to schedule. It was a good experience, as Dr. Gabbard knows my particular history and is the only upper G.I. physician whom I am comfortable with in performing a EGD.

Dr. Gabbard also set up an appointment for the next day for me to see the surgeon who will be doing surgery for my specific problem in early January. It was great that he set that up and I got to meet the surgeon before surgery. Thanks Dr. G!!!!!
