Industry Relationships

Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 9/25/2024, Dr. Bales has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. Click here to view a listing of instances where Cleveland Clinic has identified a Public Health Service (PHS)-Reportable Financial Conflict of Interest and has put measures in place to ensure that, to the extent possible, the design, conduct and reporting of the research is free from bias.

I didn't make an appointment yet to come in person as Dr. Suggested to come for 3 to 5 days. I was just disappointed because in the schedule it said we had an initial consultation, But the doctor rushed off with me because he said Someone made a mistake and made the appointment for a follow up and only 20 minutes. I did, however, take advantage of the portal and finish what I needed to tell him and send more records via message.

I am grateful to have Dr. Bales as my PCP. I feel comfortable talking with him. He always makes me feel valued not only as patient but more importantly as a person. This sadly has not always been the case with the medical doctors that I have encountered in my lifetime. CCF is fortunate to have Dr. Bales on staff.

Used my chart twice in weeks before my appointment to ask Doctor to schedule my lab work, both went unanswered called twice and was on hold approx 20 minutes each time to request labs to be put in they finally called me back and said Doctor would not put labs in until I see him I get the same lab work done all the time and did not want to have two appointments one to see the Doctor and one after I get labs done evidently the Doctor and his office do not respond to my chart messages, A waste of time just to see the Doctor to get labs put in and then have to come back. I went and saw the Doctor and had my perscriptions refilled

It's pretty much impossible to get an appointment with Dr. Bales within a month or so. It's fine for my next physical but for something beyond local Express Care usually all I see are "with others on the team" and even then it's at most one every 1-2 days. Great doctor and NPs but not enough appointment slots.

Reviewed on Feb 6, 2024

Dr. Bales is always friendly, considerate, and professional. I always get the impression he's listening and caring about me as a person. He also adapts well when my wife and I sit in the room for each other's appointments. We followed him from Twinsburgh and have a 45 minute trip now instead of 20 minutes and don't regret the extra travel time at all if we get to stick with him.

Reviewed on Jan 29, 2024

Dr Bales is great. Issue is staff at office, staff answering messages, staff not getting messages to Dr Bales. We will be moving to a new office because of staff. It is sad as we do like and respect Dr Bales. So much so as we have been driving to his office from Hudson. But will now look in Twinsburg.
