Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.
To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.
As of 10/15/2021, Dr. Massier has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Massier and I met at this visit for the first time. He was a champion in listening and reiterating what was conveyed to show that he truly understood my issues and concerns. He was very professional and I felt comfort in his demeanor and explanations.

I couldn't get a sense of if this provider was suggesting a follow up colonoscopy due to my current situation (post appendicitis appointment) or if he was suggesting it based on recommendations due to my age. in addition, after talking with me about the importance of scheduling it his team called in a prescription of prep to my pharmacy without me understanding that was the plan. I would have stopped it since I intend to get the colonoscopy, but not under his care and I recognize other providers may have different prep.

Dr. Massier was very kind. He was very good at explaining things to me about my care and my health decisions. There was a question if the surgery I was considering was worth the risk considering my lungs are bad. He told me that the risk to my lungs were at lower odds than my repair of my hernia. He suggested I wait and see if it becomes too painful or effects my digestive track. I would definitely come to him if I have to have the surgery if it becomes necessary. I trust his opinion and will seek further advise from him if need be.
