Industry Relationships

Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 10/3/2018, Dr. Jacobs has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. Click here to view a listing of instances where Cleveland Clinic has identified a Public Health Service (PHS)-Reportable Financial Conflict of Interest and has put measures in place to ensure that, to the extent possible, the design, conduct and reporting of the research is free from bias.

From the moment Dr Jacobs walked in and shook my hand, I felt like I had known him for some time. Very informal, friendly and a bit funny. I was able to get the appointment with him on short notice because of a cancellation. I didn't think I would need a cardiologist at this point in my life and am glad to have met him. Kinda lucked-out.

This was my first visit with a cardiologist. I called thr morning of the appointment and saw Dr. Jacobs that afternoon. I would highly recommend Dr. Jacobs.

My whole experience with Dr. Jacobs and his staff was positive. Everyone I dealt with was professional, courteous and extremely helpful.

There were no delays and wait time was minimal. I was seen by the nurse well within 10 minutes, taken to exam room for preliminary information and seen by Dr. Jacobs within about five minutes after completing that information.

Reviewed on Aug 16, 2018

Very positive experience. I will be seeing Dr. Jacobs again in approximately three weeks for follow-up to this visit and to discuss future treatment for my heart issues.

I was sent to the wrong cardiac specialist. He was very good and helped me set up an appointment with the proper doctor.

Dr. Jacobs is caring, concerned and involved with care of his pts. He discusses care, meds, treatment, etc. with me.

I left very satisfied with the provider and thought his "trial" medication might tell us/me something about my heart and possible connection to my breathing problem. This provider diagramed parts of the heart and then outlined possible alternatives down the line after use of the trial medicine and wearing the Holter Monitor. I was very impressed with this provider -- his kindness, professionalism, and knowledge of his chosen specialty.

probably the most thorough, courteous, and understanding provider I've ever had. Dr Jacobs and the staff have wonderful "bedside manner."

Reviewed on Mar 8, 2018

Dr. Jacobs told me what we needed to do and the POC. He was very eager to set up follow up contact.

Reviewed on Dec 18, 2017

Dr. Jacobs is very likable. I have only seen him two times. He did an EKG and we talked about the results and went over my meds. He did not feel that I needed to see him next year unless I was experiencing any major changes. I am glad that he is in my corner if I ever need him again. Big fan!
