Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 2/6/2021, Dr. Meden has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest. Cleveland Clinic scientists and physicians engage in basic, translational and clinical research activities, working to solve health problems, enhance patient care and improve quality of life for patients. Interactions with industry are essential to bringing the researchers' discoveries to the public, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to their research activities. My first appointment with Dr. Meden was excellent. Thank you all for your kind and professional ways.

Dr. Meden was experienced and thorough with his explanations of my concerns and treatment. He was able to fit me in for a breathing test last-minute, which definitely eased the difficulty I had endured with the scheduling and admittance process.

Reviewed on Jul 6, 2021

My expectations coming in were based on old data(my past experience) -it used to be that a consult with an organization like CC or Mayo you came in with an initial appointment and tests etc to find answers were scheduled over the next several days and the you had a final appointment tying everything together. So when I left (I had scheduled to be in Cleveland for a week or more) I felt incomplete. I had a diagnosis but not really a long term treatment plan. Since then I have had a good discussion with Dr Meden on the phone and I better understand the process. The impatient me wishes he could start ordering more of the tests and possible referrals I know maybe in the future for me. I do however realistically understand getting all the answers from round one of tests before moving onto round 2 is the way things are now and no longer feel disappointed in the visit.I hate ZOOM type visits but understand that is more the way now as well so will practice a lot ahead of time and hopefully get things right for that type of visit. I always tell people that even though using a computer during the last phase of my career (clinical nurse specialist for NICU, neonates and pediatrics) was an integral part of my job, it did not come naturally. I did my master's thesis on a word processor..computers took up huge rooms. I learned on the job as they moved more and more to the forefront. So I will adapt and am glad I am in this process at CC.
