Industry Relationships

Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. Cleveland Clinic strives to make scientific advances that will benefit patient care and support outside relationships that promise public benefit. In order for the discoveries of Cleveland Clinic physicians' and scientists' laboratories and investigations to benefit the public, these discoveries must be commercialized in partnership with industry. As experts in their fields, Cleveland Clinic physicians and scientists are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

As of 10/2/2019, Dr. Alfes has reported no financial relationship with industry that is applicable to this listing. In general, patients should feel free to contact their doctor about any of the relationships and how the relationships are overseen by Cleveland Clinic. *Dr. Alfes is amazing!

I have seen this doctor many times over the years. He unfortunately does not take in consideration what works for the patient regarding medications. I do not take any type of narcotics nor do I want to. I was talking to him about albuterol having it for my seasonal asthma due to working outside and weather conditions. He refused to understand that I need an inhaler periodically as I've used one for years in the winter. Therefore I do not have the medication I need. He also said that my indomethacin medication that I take for arthritis in my knee post surgery that was given to me by my Orthopedic surgeon- He disagreed with me and did not understand that I need to take that or I'm in significant pain. He is a good doctor however he really doesn't listen to what works for the patient. I am not Drug seeking whatsoever. I just need to be able to breathe properly and not cough all day in 20 weather outside and Cleveland being a mailman!

The only reason I am not giving my overall care a good remark is because of what the doctor did a deal as far as my medications.

Reviewed on Oct 29, 2019

Dr. Alfes was genuinely interested in giving me the best care possible. He explained what the information on my chart told him about my general health. (It was obvious that he had reviewed my medical History) He made suggestions and took the time to listen to my thoughts on them. A good give and take. I hope he can be my Primary Physician for many years.

Dr Alfes has earned my trust and respect enough to have me fly back to be seen in Avon Office . some may think silly to travel that distance for primary care physician, but for me it is worth it..Cleveland Clinic as a whole I trust with my health.. my life.

Dr. Alfes truly is a caring doctor who actually takes time to listen to his patients and answers all question without hurrying. I also like the fact that I am able to have my blood tests conducted in advance so Dr. Alfes goes over them in detail, explaining the results and clearly answering my questions.
