About William Welches, DO, PhD

I am an Osteopathic Physician with board certification in family practice medicine and have specialized expertise in osteopathic manipulation. I have a PhD in biochemistry and was a Research Scientist for a number of years before returning to medical school.

My area of specialty is pain management. I use osteopathic manipulation, along with several programs including diet therapy and counseling, to help patients with their pain. My techniques and programs are integrated with those of my colleagues in the Pain Management Department to provide patients with comprehensive treatment.

To assure professional and commercial integrity in such matters, Cleveland Clinic maintains a program that reviews these collaborations and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to minimize bias that may result from ties to industry. Cleveland Clinic publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians/scientists receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in rare cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) its physicians/scientists serve as a fiduciary, (iii) its physicians/scientists receive or have the right to receive royalties or (iv) its physicians/ scientists hold any equity interest for the physician's/scientist's role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant.* In publicly disclosing this information, Cleveland Clinic tries to provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians' and scientists' connections with industry.

Reviewed on Nov 8, 2019

Dr. Welches is the quintessential physician. He recently impressed me with his insight to a new approach to care for me based on information I provided several weeks ago; he obviously had given thought about me as his patient between appointments and suggested a new treatment that is working! He listens well and retains the information as he remembers me and my circumstances; describes in full detail what problems present and what steps he is taking to provide care; looks at the full person, not one problem at a time; shows great care in touch, word, and eye contact. A very gifted practitioner in all ways. I have referred friends to him.

Reviewed on Nov 8, 2019

Have already referred several friends to Dr. Welches.

Reviewed on Oct 23, 2019

Dr. Welches is obviously very much in demand. He came highly recommended from one of his patients, but it took about two months to see him. When one is dealing with pain, that is a long time. De. Welches wanted to see me for 4 weeks straight. I saw him 10/23, but could not see him again till the beginning of January. I find lengthy waits to see competent doctors the norm, not the exception. The slogan you used to advertise about same day appointments...definitely FAKE NEWS!

Reviewed on Oct 23, 2019

Dr. Welches handled me well, in a very professional manner. He is not one for chit-chat but does what needs doing efficiently, methodically, and expertly. He informed me of a few things and then worked. My experience and results were good, and I look forward to future visits (which aren't coming soon enough. He is entitled, of course, to vacation, and again, of course, he see other patients.)Tiffany, who was in the room, did not provide any service but < I guess, in this day and age, a male doctor with a female patient needs another person/woman in the room---sad commentary on our society.

Reviewed on Oct 7, 2019

Dr Welches is very gentle and the treatment really helps my back pain. He answers my questions and I never feel rushed

Reviewed on Oct 7, 2019

Dr was recommended to me by my 86 year old mother who he has helped with her back problems

Reviewed on Sep 20, 2019

Dr. Welches did not say one word to me during the whole 40 min. visit, except "Hi, how are you?" while walking in, and "Alright, that's it, bye." as he grabbed the door handle to leave. He did not ask me anything about my issues, conditions, or pains. This makes you feel very uncomfortable. During a first initial visit, I asked him what he thinks can be causing my issues; he got mad, snapped at me and said he didn't know, and that he already told me was my first appointment. I am not comfortable asking him anything anymore. It is clear that he knows he is the only D.O. at the Clinic that does this type of treatment, and treats people like they are disposable, because he can.

Reviewed on Sep 20, 2019

I understand that we don't choose a specific doctor to make friends, and that some doctors are more of an introvert; but there is an expectation of at least being acknowledged as a human being, let alone a patient seeking out a doctor for information and treatment. This is by far a big void and an issue with Dr. Welches.
