As a pulmonary and critical care medicine fellow, you will attend a number of weekly and monthly conferences.
Education Day (Monthly)
Education Day is a full day conference based on a specific theme or topic (e.g., COPD, lung cancer or mechanical ventilation) pulled from both pulmonary and critical care medicine. When the focus is a critical care topic, critical care medicine fellows also attend. Nationally recognized professors are invited to lecture and interact with our fellows.
Journal Club (Monthly)
Two fellows present one paper each under the direction of a faculty host and our resident statisticians.
Critical Care Conference (Weekly)
This conference varies in topics and activities, which may include Critical Care Journal Club, PA catheter interpretation, mechanical ventilators, intubation simulator workshop and central line workshop.
Pulmonary Radiology-Pathology Conference (Bi-monthly)
Using a CPC format, three case puzzlers are presented by fellows and potential differentials are discussed by expert radiologists, lung pathologists, infectious disease staff and pulmonary staff/fellows.
Morbidity & Mortality Conference (Monthly)
Two to three teaching cases are chosen by staff and discussed by fellows and attending staff.
Pulmonary and Critical Care Summits and Symposia (Annually)
The Respiratory Institute sponsors two to three national symposia or topic-based summits each year with speakers and attendees from across the country. Fellows are allowed to attend for free and are encouraged to participate.
Fellows are funded to attend conferences each year as follows:
- First year: CHEST/ACCP conference
- Second year: ATS conference
- Third year: Fellows can attend both conferences if presenting (poster/oral presentation).
